Apprenticeships are an excellent way to recruit new employees who can be trained and developed to support business needs whilst building their skills and knowledge. Apprenticeships can also be used to upskill existing employees for new or developing roles. The apprenticeship programme is tailored to the employer – you are in the driving seat.
During 2020 the Education Skills Funding Agency (ESFA) has moved away from the use of Government-procured contracts for apprenticeship training to a system in which employers will select an apprenticeship standard, choose their training provider and secure access to funding for all new apprenticeships through the digital Apprenticeship Service. Traineeships
Traineeships are a flexible sector focused learning and work placement programme funded by the Government for a maximum of one year.
They enable you to get to know and work with young people prior to recruiting apprentices by offering a minimum of 70 hours of work experience, but no more than 240 hours for benefit claimants over the duration of the traineeship (maximum of one year) and as agreed with the training provider. The training provider will design the programme in conjunction with you so that it suits both your business and the needs of the trainee.
The benefits of a traineeship programme for your business include giving your current employees experience in training and mentoring, helping you to increase capacity and productivity by developing a loyal and talented workforce.
Employers who make new work placement opportunities available may also receive an incentive payment of £1000 per learner, for up to 10 learners. More guidance will follow on this new incentive.
Employers of all sizes can apply for funding which covers:
Employers can spread the start date of the job placements up until the end of December 2021.
A Kickstart Scheme application must be for a minimum of 30 job placements. If a single employer cannot provide this many job placements, they can find a Kickstart gateway, such as a local authority, charity or trade body for help applying.
This fantastic opportunity will help “young people get a great start in work” whilst your business will benefit from all the skills and knowledge young people bring with them. Check out the Kickstart Scheme here.
