The Coast to Capital EAN works to connect senior, local business leaders with senior leaders in local schools and colleges helping to motivate and inspire young people, to make a major impact on their future career prospects.
One of the eight priorities within the Coast to Capital's Strategic Economic Plan is to 'Create Skills for the Future'. Essential to achieving this priority is the delivery of high quality careers and enterprise activities in our schools and colleges. The Coast to Capital Enterprise Adviser Network (EAN), a part of the Careers & Enterprise Company's (CEC) national EAN, supports the delivery of this ambition in the area.
The Coast to Capital EAN works to connect senior, local business leaders with senior leaders in local schools and colleges helping to motivate and inspire young people, to make a major impact on their future career prospects.
The purpose of the network is to create powerful, lasting connections between local businesses and education establishments in order to equip young people with the skills they need. To do this we have a team of Enterprise Coordinators who each support around 20 schools and colleges in their area and link them to local business.
COVID-19 Service Update
We are working closely with our colleagues at the Careers & Enterprise Company on guidance to support schools and colleges within the Coast to Capital region and would like to assure you of our continued service at this difficult time. Despite the current situation we continue to support schools and colleges to be innovative in their careers plans and programmes.
The Careers & Enterprise Company will be promoting various online communications and resources to support your pupils/students with remote employer encounters via their social media channels, and we share useful links and resources on PADLET which can be accessed here.
Should you have any queries, please don't hesitate to contact your Enterprise Coordinator.
Enterprise Advisers
Enterprise Advisers are being recruited from local businesses and organisations and work at a strategic level alongside the schools' senior management teams. The aim of these partnerships is to evaluate the existing careers and enterprise work taking place in the schools and develop activity plans to ensure that the best local provision can be accessed, helping to better prepare their students for the world of work.
All schools and colleges are required to deliver a careers programme that inspires and informs their students about the world of work. To support this, we aim to match every school and college with a volunteer from business who can provide advice on effectively engaging with employers. Our Enterprise Advisers bring their wealth of knowledge and experience to help develop a comprehensive careers programme for a local school or college which will fully support young people between 11 and 18 years old.
In 2013 the Gatsby Foundation commissioned Sir John Holman to research pragmatic actions that could improve career guidance in England and subsequently he developed the Good Career Guidance Benchmarks, known as the Gatsby Benchmarks. Our key focus is to support schools & colleges to achieve Benchmark 5 (employer encounters) and Benchmark 6 (experiences of the workplace). The two benchmarks help to ensure that young people have the opportunity to participate in a range of employer led careers activities and visit a variety of sector workplaces, thereby helping to develop skills for the world of work.
Delivered in partnership with the Careers and Enterprise Company, the Coast to Capital Local Enterprise Partnership is working through its partners to deliver this national programme across the region.
