Carbon Trust Launches £7 Million Green Business Fund (Great Britain)

The Carbon Trust's new Green Business Fund is intended to help small and medium-sized companies in Great Britain with a financial contribution towards energy saving initiatives.

The Fund is expected to help between 1,000 and 2,000 small businesses to deliver new energy efficiency projects. As part of the service, the Carbon Trust is also offering energy saving training, cost saving assessments, implementation advice, and capital support for the installation of energy efficiency equipment.

The programme has an overall budget of £7 million. Eligible companies can apply for a capital contribution to cover up to 15% of the total of an energy efficiency project or equipment replacement cost, up to a maximum of £5,000.

The programme will fund the purchase costs of energy saving capital equipment that will enable businesses to become 'greener'. Eligible projects could include undertaking energy efficiency upgrades, such as improvements to lighting, heating, ventilation, air conditioning and building control systems.

Small and medium-sized businesses in England, Scotland and Wales may apply.

Support is being provided on a first come, first served basis. Interested parties are advised to register at their earliest convenience.

Funding will be awarded from June 2016.

"Our experience of working with thousands of companies across the UK indicates that year-on-year savings of 20% to 30% can be delivered through action on energy efficiency," said Hugh Jones, managing director, advisory, at the Carbon Trust in a statement. "We'd encourage smaller companies to apply to make the most of the fund on offer in order to realise significant savings on their bottom line."
